Playing Politics With the Lives of Others

Wreaking economic, societal and legal havoc is nothing new for politicians. Democrats do it so cavalierly, in fact, and with the blessing of the Liberal Media Complex, that a true cynic cannot really blame them. But surely it is past time for such charlatans to stop playing politics with people’s lives.

Someone should have told that to Barack Obama when he occupied the White House and stumped for re-election. Not wanting to come off as too politically drastic, he toured the land telling friendly audiences that no less an authority than the U.S. Constitution prevented him from unilaterally granting legal status, via executive order, to hundreds of thousands of young immigrants (the so-called ‘Dreamers’) who were in this country illegally. Such policies, Mr. Obama acknowledged, are the constitutional purview of Congress.

After he secured his second term as president, however, Mr. Obama did exactly what he had earlier declared undo able — acting unilaterally so as to grant legal status, via executive order, to hundreds of thousands of young immigrants who are in this country illegally. Mr. Obama’s cynical, hypocritical, and clearly unconstitutional maneuver rested on the too-clever political calculation that, first, Hillary Clinton would become the next president and never undo his executive order and, second, should Hillary loose, whichever Republican defeated her would lack the political nerve to counter his executive order with an executive order of their own.

Barack Obama was wrong — on both counts. He never imagined his successor in the Oval Office would be Donald Trump, the one politician with enough nerve to stick it back in Obama’s face, to demand some constitutional accountability apply to the unholy mess he made of America’s immigration policy.

Now, we see hundreds of thousands of ‘Dreamers,’ not to mention their family members both inside and outside of the United States, severely¬†impacted because of Barack Obama’s cynical overreach. It is ironic and hypocritical, though not terribly surprising, that Mr. Obama, his Democrat colleagues, and their liberal media enablers will now clamor to condemn others as playing politics with people’s lives.

Talk about heartless.
